Our Story

Better, By Every Account®

At Sooper Credit Union, we build relationships. In the many communities we serve — Arvada, Aurora, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Lakewood, and beyond — our priority is to help our members secure a bright financial future.

We’re committed to providing real solutions to help you reach your goals — and we understand the major role finances play in your life. We’re your trusted advisor, giving you personal, professional advice on everything from buying a house or car to the best way to save for a dream vacation. You’ll enjoy fast, friendly service in person at our branch locations, over the phone, and through mobile and online banking 24/7. You will also have the convenience of surcharge-free ATMs whether in the Denver Metro Area or just about anywhere else in the country.

Our History

Sooper Credit Union was founded in 1951 by eight King Soopers employees and only $157.00 in capital. These eight employees saw a need for a different way to do banking, and thanks to them, Sooper Credit Union now serves over 36,000 members and exceeds $500 million in assets. Though based in the Denver area, we serve members nationwide and offer a wide variety of banking services that include savings and investment plans, loans for just about any need, and many convenient services.

Exceptional Financial Strength

Sooper Credit Union frequently receives recognition for providing outstanding financial stability to its members. We have a strong capital position that enables us to continually grow while providing cutting edge products and services to our members and building a strong infrastructure. Our financial strength and stability are furthered by federal insurance under NCUA and additional excess share insurance policies provided to all members.

Sooper Credit Union is Different

While banks focus on their shareholders and stock value, Sooper Credit Union exists to serve our members and their respective communities which means we charge you less and give you more. Unlike a bank, we return our earnings to our members in the form of lower rates on loans, higher interest on deposits, and better services. The true meaning of “paying it forward.”

What does it mean to be a member?

When you become a member, you become a part-owner of our credit union. Your basic savings account is your “share” in that ownership, and we look to you to help guide our future. Being a member also means it is your right to vote on candidates for our volunteer Board of Directors committee and to have a say in the way we do business.

Our Mission:

Our promise is to financially empower your life's journey.
